BUREAU DOOVE in END – Nathalie Hunter

In today’s publication in Empirical Nonsense Daily we present Nathalie Hunter. We’ve been working together since Super! Triennial for Visual Art, Fashion & Design in Hasselt (2005). Over the years Hunter has build an impressive oeuvre that touches on several seemingly contrasting fields that however happily intermingle with each other: her (wall) drawings, work on an edible landscape and more recently, her ceramics all connect in an alchemist way. The underlying energy of which, as she says, is always one of transformation, transcendence through daily acts of reconnection. Much based upon the… Read More

Nathalie Hunter at Markt 1, Rumst

In a recent series of drawings for the ceramics center Markt 1 in Rumst, Belgium she combines her love for drawing and ceramics. Find her project and Nathalie’s comments on it below: The Markt 1 Ceramic Art Center was created out of a willingness to bring people together. The founders had raised a crazy amount of money in Dec 2018 to help people with ALS disease. This brought such a such strong… Read More

Nathalie Hunter – drawing on walls

The first time when I collaborated with Nathalie Hunter I invited her to contribute to the first Biennial for Visual Art, Fashion and Design in Hasselt – Super! (2005). I had selected her on the basis of her wonderful wall drawings combined with her paintings. Recently she realised a new series of drawings for the company of Boringen Verheyden in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, the leading company for geometral and water drillings in Flanderen. On her blog she posted some observations around the practice of making wall drawings that are very interesting to share…. Read More

Nathalie Hunter for Bureau Doove Presents: The Move

Have a look at the little video that Nathalie Hunter created specifically for our Crowdfunder and help us realise the set up of micro-residencies in Saint-Nazaire, France. Nathalie Hunter is one of the earliest artists I have worked with over the years and we have always been great supporters of the idea of slow curating. It is great to see how this is becoming a wider concern, amongst others in this fascinating article by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez. The idea of the micro-residencies is developed very much in this same vein. As a curator I explicitly… Read More

Leroy, Maes, Hulsmans and Ara

Some news about the current activities of some BD artists plus an important teaser at the end. Dominique Leroy at La Méridienne, Lunéville Dominique Leroy is showing his poetic sonic installation Jardin nô at Theatre La Méridienne in Lunéville (near Nancy). First shown at the Galerie RDV in Nantes this installation refers to the traditional Japanese theatre. This sculpture is activated by a series… Read More

Nathalie HUNTER and Biophilia Cracks

In the context of the exhibition URBANisM, which temporarily redefines the parking lot, Nathalie HUNTER investigates what grows in the cracks of the pavement. Worried about the disconnect with nature in general and in urban space specifically HUNTER fights tirelessly for a creative reconnection. Next to each installation of the project she looks for plants that grow between the cracks. QR-codes inform you about the interaction of the plants with your body (herbalism) and the soil (phytoremediation). Then, plants will be used to make paintings. Ancient dye techniques will meet encaustic paint to reveal a whole… Read More
