Marc HAMANDJIAN (1966) lives and works in Rouen. His universe can be situated somewhere in between utopia and science fiction.
His hybrid vehicles and habitats are immaculately white, waiting to explore or to be explored while the titles of his work often make allusion to another cosmos that in fact might be terrestrial after all. Influenced by the humor and ironie of Philip K. Dick a “conceptual distance” causes “a problem of recognition” for the viewer due to a strategy of confusion between references and the recuperation of unusual and incongruous elements (1).
In 2010 FRAC de Haute Normandie hosted his solo exhibition ‘Explorama‘. In 2016 he was invited by David Liaudet to participate in the collective exhibition obliqueS, around the work of Claude Parent (Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts du Mans from 03 February to 04 March) while presenting his universe at the same period at Piacé le Radieux.
In January 2023 he had a solo show at Médium Argent, Rouen and a solo show (with catalogue) at Évreux in autumn 2023.
We worked together for his installation Watou Watou at the Arts Festival Watou 2023.

Marc HAMANDJIAN (1966) vit et travaille à Rouen. Son univers peut être situé quelque part entre l’utopie et la science-fiction.
Ses véhicules et habitats hybrides sont d’un blanc immaculé, attendant d’explorer ou d’être explorés, tandis que les titres de ses œuvres font souvent allusion à un autre cosmos qui, en fait, pourrait être terrestre après tout. Influencé par l’humour et l’ironie de Philip K. Dick, une “distance conceptuelle” provoque “un problème de reconnaissance” pour le spectateur en raison d’une stratégie de confusion entre les références et de récupération d’éléments inhabituels et incongrus (1).
En 2010, le FRAC de Haute Normandie a accueilli son exposition solo “Explorama“. En 2016 il est invité par David Liaudet à participer à l’exposition collective obliqueS, autour de l’œuvre de Claude Parent (Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts du Mans du 03 février au 04 mars) tout en présentant son univers à la même période à Piacé le Radieux.
En janvier 2023 il a eu une exposition personnelle au Médium Argent à Rouen et une exposition personnelle (avec catalogue) à l’automne 2023 à Évreux.
Nous avons travaillé ensemble pour son installation Watou Watou au Festival des Arts Watou 2023.
