Call for participation: Multisensory Aesthetics workshop, Plymouth University, 16/05/17

The Multisensory Aesthetics project at Plymouth University is a transdiciplinary collaboration between psychology, fine art, 3D design and sound art, designed to explore the creation and perception of multisensory artworks.

As part of the project you are invited to a one day workshop exploring the use of multisensory techniques in art and design practice as well as psychological and neurological studies of these phenomena. The event is designed to bring together scientists, academics and artists working in the field for networking and discussion. Attendance is free and refreshments will be provided. For those staying over there will be the opportunity for a group meal on the evening of the 16th. We are very pleased to have keynote sessions led by Marianna Obrist from Sussex University’s SCHI lab, and sound artist Iris Garrelfs from Goldsmiths University.

We invite proposals for talks (20 mins), discussions, demos, workshops, and practical works. Subjects of interest include:
Multisensory experience
Correlations and translations between disparate media
Psychological and neurological effects and illusions
Perceptual binding
Biological and digital synaesthsia
Visual music
Sound and sculpture
Unusual combinations: sound / objects / taste / smell
The multisensory and the imagination
Challenges of presenting multisensory work.
