Research Group

I am extremely happy to announce the exhibition and publication around the Belgian Research Group, active from 1967 till 1972 at De Stadsmus, Hasselt.

In 1989 I finished my studies in art history at the University of Leiden with a master thesis on this group of artists consisting of Jos Jans, Dré Sprankenis, Hélène Keil, Hugo Duchateau, Jan Withofs and their teacher Vincent Van den Meersch. To be closer to the subject of my research, I had already moved to Antwerp in 1987, which would be the start of my career as an art critic and curator. I am immensely happy that the Friends of the City Museum (Het Stadsmus) in Hasselt, Belgium asked me to curate an exhibition in collaboration with Jo Klaps and an accompanying publication designed by Geoffrey Brusatto.

Because the members of the Research Group were also art teachers, we’ve not only extended the project to a collaboration with PXL-MAD School of Arts for an exhibition and conference from 7 november onwards on the collaboration between art teachers and their students, but also added collaborations with The School by Pablo Hannon and Stef Lemmens as well as Sara Bomans and her students.
