Mike Blow at Garage Wattignies, Nantes 2018

The first residency strand is that of Mike Blow who visited Nantes and Saint-Nazaire from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 November 2018. We jointly visited Wattignies Social Club, the Festival Instants Fertiles for the installation of Dominique Leroy and the garden session of Projet Neuf. We explored the submarine base of Saint-Nazaire and Mike made some first sound recordings. Along the way we met with several artists and others.

We hope to organise the following node of this residency in 2019.

An excellent weekend in St Nazaire and Nantes with Bureau DOOVE, checking out potential sites for work and making new friends. Highlights included visiting lots of interesting locations in the two cities, meeting Dominique Leroy and Jerome Joy and hearing about their work and the social initiatives that run in the local area, experiencing Dom’s excellent sonification work ‘Sedimentes’, visiting the WWII submarine pens and the site of the extraordinary St Nazaire raid, and a very strange restaurant owner who wouldn’t serve me a salad ‘for my own good’! Oh, and a 2CV dressed up as a mouse. Thanks to everyone who showed me much kindness.
